December Detox Your Life | Day 6: Just a Spoonful of Sugar
When starting out your week, the better you eat, the better you’ll feel. Unfortunately, lots of us love to eat sweet, and eating sweet has some consequences. In fact, studies show we’re addicted to sugar. But weaning yourself of sugar is actually easier than you think. Don’t go “cold turkey”. And here comes the first tip…
Tip #1: Leave that second spoon of sugar in the jar.
If you like two spoons of sugar, try just one (or at least 1 ½) and follow that pattern until you simply don’t feel the need. If you absolutely must have sweet try using agave syrup or another low glycemic natural sweetener. Low glycemic foods are harder for your body to digest, prolonging the amount of time it takes for your body to convert and consume the energy (you’ll feel fuller longer).
Tip #2: Mix in a little H20
Soda, juice, and other sweet drinks can sneak up on you. It’s hard not to crave sweet drinks for the same reason we crave sweets. Next time you go for that cranberry concoction, try adding a little water to the juice. Do it in steps: 3 parts juice to 1 part water. Then go half one, half the other. Pretty soon, you’ll opt for water instead. Now if you aren’t a fan of diluting regular water and soda, try adding carbonated water instead.
And that’s it for Day 6. We kept it short and sweet. Pun intended.
