December Detox Your Life | Day 10: Look Your Best, Feel Your Best, Be Your Best
Sometimes, being motivated to make positive changes in your life, can be as simple as starting with a change in your looks. When you look better, you feel better, and you’ll be better. Where to start? Well, professional hair stylist and colorist Julie Liskey at Piazza For Hair in Livermore, CA says start with your hair.
What does getting your hair done have to do with wellness you ask? Well we asked the same question of Julie and this was her response:
When people come into the salon they often look tired and stressed because their hair is gray, frizzy and unmanageable or has no style to it at all. They want a makeover. By the time they’re ready to leave the salon, they look younger, much more relaxed and even excited. They feel rejuvenated because their hair looks healthier, shinier and the gray is gone. As a result they feel younger. All these things contribute to a person’s wellness. Generally, we feel great when we look great.
And now thanks to Julie, we now have a way to look and feel our very best — from home.
Tip: Try deep conditioning your hair to look and feel your best (recipe follows)
Simple ways to make your hair look and feel great is to do a deep conditioning treatment once a week. Your hair will look shinier and less frizzy. For those who have silver/white hair you can get rid of those dull golden tones by using a clarifying shampoo once a week. If you have longer, straight hair and you want to have a different look, you can put it in braids overnight to add a curly wave to your hair for the next day.
Not everyone can afford going to the salon every week for a deep conditioning treatment, so here’s a simple yet excellent recipe to try at home that we tested ourselves (and boy, was our hair SHINY!):
½ avocado pitted and mashed
Mayo (Veganaise if you’re Vegan)
OR coconut milk
When all ingredients are at room temperature (the fats will blend and penetrate better at room temp), mix together until you get the consistency of a conditioner.
Smooth into hair, working it to the ends. Use a shower cap or plastic wrap over your head to seal in body heat. For extra conditioning, wrap a towel around the shower cap. Leave on for 15 – 20 minutes. Rinse, shampoo, rinse and dry and style as normal or if you want an extra dose of shiny here’s a tip for you:
Tip: Warm/hot water opens hair follicles so that conditioner can penetrate deeper. Cold water closes hair follicles. After you rinse your hair, give it a blast of cold water (the coldest you can possibly stand). It will also make your hair super shiny!
If you don’t want to go through making your own deep conditioning treatment but you still want to feel better about your looks, then next time you do go to the salon, why not try a deep conditioning treatment? Quench it with the new wear and care line by Bumble & Bumble. For those who fuss with everyday frizz, try the keratin complex treatment and enjoy silky no fuss hair for the holidays. If organic is important to you, then you will enjoy Pureology 100% organic, vegan and surface free hair care. Remember when you’re buying products for your hair: “conditioning” = moisture and “reconstructing” = protein (will restore the protein bonds n your hair).
