December Detox Your Life | Day 16: Take Time For Entertainment

go to a playhouseIt often seems as though life is just passing us by. I mean really, where did 2010 go? I can’t believe how quickly the days and weeks are flying by. Yet, every day seems to be the same thing, right? Wake up, go to school and/or work, come home, catch up on things, lounge in front of the TV, go to bed and do the same thing the next day. It seems as though the older I get, the more energy is required to take out some time just for me. We rarely do that for ourselves but our well-being depends on it. If you have young kids like me, it’s not easy to do, but it is essential. I’m a nicer mom when I take time out for me once in a while. But even all you younger, single kid-less people need to take time away from your computers and smart phones and enjoy life too!

So let’s say we do have a free night to ourselves, then what? What’s there to do? Go out for dinner? Go see a movie with friends. Yeah sure, that’s really wonderful too but if you’re anything like me, you’re always looking for something to do that’s different. Actually, there’s a whole slew of things that are fun, different and don’t cost a lot. During the remainder couple of weeks of this December Detox Your Life blog, I think it’s important for us to do something fun and different for ourselves at least once a week. I’m happy to offer a few suggestions each week of no-money fun things to do or things that don’t cost a lot but get us out of the house, out of our mundane routines and liven up our souls. However, I’m equally happy to receive ideas from any of you of things you’ve done and are a whole lot of fun and different (E for Everyone only please, this is a respectable blog community after all!).

So here are just a couple of my suggestions but if you have better ideas, go ahead and do them or better yet, share them with us. For starters…

Tip: Go to a theater.

No, not the “movies” — a real-life playhouse. How often have you gone to the theater? Ok, I know this isn’t exactly on the low end of the cost spectrum but it is a lot of fun and you can get the cheap seats. Plus, due to the holiday season, there are a variety of different, wonderful and magical things going on stages all across our country, especially locally. You know, I’ve never seen The Nutcracker. I heard it’s beautiful to watch and I love to watch dancing of any kind. I actually think I’m too late for The Nutcracker (it played at one of our local theaters two weeks ago) but you get my point. Let’s try to get theater tickets to see a symphony, play or ballet before the end of this month and we can share our experiences.

Tip #2: If the theater just isn’t in your budget, get a group of friends together and play a good old-fashioned game of Pictionary.

It’s not exactly theater but it is good for a laugh!
