December Detox Your Life | Day 18: Laugh It Up
For some of us, this New Year’s we’ll be resolving to reduce our stress. Well, we’ve discovered that one of the best ways to reduce stress is to start laughing. That’s right. Laugh the stress away.
We love to laugh, and laughter loves us back — in more ways than one. It relieves stress, is as effective as moderate exersize and well, it’s hilarious. Here are a few short term benefits of laughter as described by Mayo Clinic:
Laughter can:
- Stimulate many organs by increasing your intake of oxygen-rich air
- Relieve you of stress while at the same time increasing your heart rate and blood pressure
- Stimulate circulation and aid muscle relaxation
In the long run, you’ll benefit from laughter through an improved immune system thanks to decreased stress, pain relief, and coping. It’s not hard to see the humor in things but if you are having trouble getting started, we’ll give you a quick tip.
Tip: Surround yourself with humor.
You’ve heard the rumor: laughter IS contagious; so why not take a step in the funny direction? Read a few comics, check out funny blogs, watch a few great YouTube videos, or go to a comedy show. For those of you stuck in an office all day, print out a few comic strips (we recommend Dilbert) and post them in your cubicle. It’s easy to do, and it’ll make a real positive difference in your life.
