December Detox Your Life | Day 4: Giving Is Receiving
All too often we get caught up in ourselves. Our lives have become so busy working and accumulating more and more. Yet, are we any happier with all the stuff? If you really want to “get more” you have to give. But here’s the catch, you can’t give and expect to get anything in return. The trick to feeling the benefits of giving is to do it without conditions.
Giving is detoxifying. If you have ever given unconditionally you’ll know that in the act of giving you experience joy, freedom and purpose. If we expect to get something out of giving then the act of charity has been lost.
Here’s today’s wellness tip that will help you AND your community
Tip: Pay it forward. Choose one person, organization, or family to give to this week, and make a life for yourself.
Volunteer, pay for a strangers coffee, help a family in need. In order to get the most wellness benefit from the joy of giving, choose organizations that are most compatible with your passions, interests and values. Go out there and give and then share your story below.
We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give. ~Winston Churchill
UPDATE 12/10: We had to share this video. It’s so powerful and speaks to the heart of what we are saying.

@Ann You are absolutely correct. We ought not to share our story with the purpose of recognition. That being said, I like the video because Narayanan told a beautiful, moving story about giving back to his community and I feel he did it without sounding pompous, don’t you? It’s definitely a fine balance.
I love the concept on giving is receiving, and that video clip of Narayanan Krishnan-the good samaritan, made me cry. I do believe that giving really does fulfill your life, but it has to come from the heart and not from getting recognition from your fellow man. It says in the Bible that “your left hand should not know what your right hand is doing”. In the blog it says we should go out there and give and then share our story-but not too much of it, because then I think it kind of defeats the purpose of not getting recognition-don’t you think?
