December Detox Your Life | Day 1: Motivation
Just about the hardest challenge anyone has with making a change in one’s life is, motivation. Where does it come from? Why do some people seem to have more of it than others? Actually, if we had to wait to get motivated to do anything, nothing would get done. Here’s the secret to getting motivated – as the Nike slogan suggests: just do it! Stop waiting to get motivated. Don’t think about it and just do it. There. That’s all there is to it. It really is that simple but if you’re anything like me, I always find it much easier when I have the support of others and that’s why we’re in this together.
So, for day one of our Detox Your Life opportunity here’s what we’ve got to do today:
1. Make a list of what you want detoxified from your life. Go ahead, do it now while you’re thinking about it!
After you’ve made the list write down the following and put it somewhere near your computer, on your smart phone or wherever you can see it every morning:
2. Read your list of what you want to change in your life.
3. Visualize what your life will be like without all the “toxins” in it. (these are the things you wrote on your list)
Join this group every day for the next 31 days and practice the daily Detox Your Life tips found on this blog. Learn to identify moments in your day where you can implement the Detox Your Life tip of the day. Become aware of the changes that may be a result of the efforts you’re making by writing observations down in a journal.
Not all the tips we will be offering from different experts over the next 31 days will address exactly what you’ve put on your list. Please practice them anyway. We’d love to hear your stories. The whole idea behind this effort is to create sustainability in our community. Sustainability is a triple-tiered paradigm aimed at creating and perpetuating the community (it’s people), business, and the environment. It’s a very holistic approach that vies for the ultimate success of everyone involved. By working at this together, communicating and supporting each other we will be helping ourselves ultimately by helping others.

Ok. I’m going to be bold and share my list. You’re free to make comments or suggestions and I’m sure there’s going to be more days with advice that’ll speak to me. Here’s my list in priority order,
1) I am looking to make time for me. All too often I get excited about projects and work and I overwhelm myself and crash. I’d like to learn how to set a healthy pace for that thing called work-life balance.
2) I want to practice more listening. I think (like many Americans) I do not have good listening skills. I think part of this is due to the speed at which my mind races (no seriously). I get ahead of the conversation and before you know it, I’ve completely disregarded the person whom I was supposed to be listening too. I am not sure how to go about “learning to listen” so hopefully someone can help!
3) I want to get back into shape and stay in shape. This one I am perfectly aware of my problem and I think if I can get #1 sorted this might fall into place.
I think I’ll stick to 3 things for now so I don’t overwhelm myself (too late?). I am sure some of you out there have the same problem as me so hopefully we can collaborate.
All the best,
Ariana
Great idea on the motivation, looking forward to see what tomorrow brings.
